SAT Test Day Checklist: Everything You Need to Bring
For SAT Weekend, pack a fully charged approved testing device, your Bluebook admission ticket, acceptable physical photo ID, and pens or pencils for scratch work. Check device setup before packing the bag. Use the checklist below to separate essentials, optional items and arrival planning.
Prepare the testing device before the final week
Follow College Board’s device-readiness instructions. Supported device types include a Windows laptop or tablet, Mac laptop, iPad or school-managed Chromebook. A personal Chromebook or phone cannot serve as the testing device. Check the linked requirements for your specific device and settings, and ask your school for help with a managed device.
College Board recommends downloading Bluebook at least 30 days ahead so you can test it and resolve problems. Requests to borrow a College Board device also require at least 30 days. If you already have an approved loan, follow its instructions; that device is prepared for you and exam setup is completed at the center. SAT School Day candidates should follow their school’s directions.
One to five days before: finish setup and get the ticket
For your own testing device, open Bluebook, sign in and complete exam setup during the 1–5 days before the test. This downloads the test and generates your admission ticket. College Board’s current packing list prefers a printed ticket; you can also email the ticket to yourself. Keep it accessible without relying on a last-minute login.
The official calendar lists November 7, 2026 as the next SAT Weekend date at this update. For that administration, the 1–5-day setup window is November 2–6. Confirm your own registration and test card; Sunday testing and school-based arrangements can differ.
Pack the essentials and check the ID rules
Use the official what-to-bring list for the final check:
Device: fully charged, Bluebook installed and the applicable setup complete.
Ticket and ID: current admission ticket and acceptable original physical photo ID.
Scratch work: pens or pencils.
Account access: know your College Board username and password and keep them private.
Read the ID requirements for your testing country and circumstances. The ticket alone is insufficient. Your ID must meet the applicable rules and match your registration. Digital IDs and photocopies are not accepted. Rules for testing outside your home country, age 21 or older, and certain countries are stricter than a generic school-ID checklist.
Choose optional items without adding prohibited devices
Pack a charging cable or portable charger, a drink and snack for the break, and a bag if useful. A separate handheld calculator is optional because Bluebook includes one. If bringing yours, check the current calculator policy: CAS calculators are prohibited, and stored documents and algebra-function programs must be removed. Familiarity with a calculator does not establish that it is allowed.
Follow the prohibited-device rules and the proctor’s storage instructions. Phones, smartwatches and wireless earbuds cannot be accessed during testing or breaks unless covered by an approved accommodation. A simple non-smart watch without an audible alarm is an optional item. Check your approved accommodations and medical-device instructions separately, including any required equipment.
Plan arrival from your ticket, then check changes
Check the address and arrival time on your admission ticket. College Board’s sample Saturday schedule has check-in at 7:45 a.m. and doors closing at 8 a.m., but your ticket’s instructions take precedence. Students with a College Board loaned device must arrive 30 minutes early for setup. Recheck Bluebook, email, My SAT and the official closing notices for center changes.
Worked travel example: suppose your ticket says 7:45 a.m. arrival, your trip takes 35 minutes, and you allow a 10-minute buffer. Plan to leave at 7:00 a.m.: 7:45 minus 35 minutes minus 10 minutes. If your approved loan instructions require arrival 30 minutes earlier, the same travel assumptions give 6:30 a.m. departure. Replace every assumption with your actual instructions and route.
Rehearse the setup, then choose focused practice
Before test day, use official Bluebook practice on the device you plan to bring so you can check the interface and tools. The morning of the test, reopen Bluebook, check messages and confirm the battery is charged. Put the ticket, ID and cable beside the device for one final bag check.
